Keywords:
Collective Memory, Institutionalization, Public Teaching, History of EducationAbstract
The aim is to analyze the institutional memory of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)/Brazil in a period of institutional crisis (1985- 2001). An in-depth qualitative case study was conducted, where 18 interviews and documentary analysis were applied, transcribed and analyzed. The data were analyzed according to thematic content analysis. The results indicate that the period of institutional crisis initiated with the change of headquarters of the Institute occurred against the will of most servers and promoted a destructuring of routines, habits and values, impacting institutional capital. The crisis period was overcome from a work of institutional entrepreneurship, whose reconstruction was possible through the intersection of the narratives of those who experienced the crisis with other documents, bequeathed to the present a deeper understanding on the institutional past. The discussion of the results proposes the understanding of institutional memory as a strategic and activating component of institutional entrepreneurship focused on the generation of institutional capital.
