The main purpose of this article was to analyze the learning experiences of indigenous students in higher education. In this case, this research was conducted at a private university in the city of Puebla. The methodology used is qualitative and descriptive. The technique applied for this research project was an interview which contains some open questions. The interviews were conducted to five students who belong to a scholarship program from the university Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla(UPAEP) which receives students from low-income backgrounds and indigenous communities. Consequently, the authors of this article analyzed the students‟ stories on the basis of the information obtained. The main conclusions show culture shock due to new contexts as well as some issues due to some self-views and perspectives. However, being part of higher education is seen as an opportunity to reach individual goals and get a better progress.
