Abstract

This research aims to understand educational policies from the perspective of participatory
democratic management in a state of the Brazilian Northeast - Piauí. To this end, a documentaryresearch and qualitative approach was carried out based on the research corpus formed by Brazilian
and state regulations related to the theme. It is observed that the normative guarantee is an important
step, but not enough for a school management committed to seek mechanisms to guarantee popular
participation in the scope of school management. It is necessary, then, new considerations,
procedural innovations, effective practices, in the sense of adhesion and mobilization of the
community around school issues, which can awaken the appropriation and the protagonism before
the community challenges, articulating the educational process to the development of the community.
At the same time, the democratic participation in a capitalist context is surrounded by tensions, which
requires a dynamic of constant struggle for the normative guarantee and improvement of these
spaces of school conviviality.
