Abstract

Knowing What is the cost that companies assume for illnesses contracted by their employees in the workplace? it is important, because of the impact that absenteeism, low performance, and inadequate organizational climate can generate. In this regard, the research aims to determine that the cost of occupational diseases acquired in the work performance of employees and workers are significant and are related to the type of activity that the company develops. The research uses the deductive method, has a descriptive - causal level. It considers a population sample of 59,958 workers. Use for the analysis the database of the National Survey ENEMDU 2018 of the National Institute of Statistics of Ecuador (INEC). The results show that there is a high percentage of occupational diseases that are directly related to the type of activity that workers develop in companies; occupational diseases affect the permanence in the labor source; occupational diseases have a negative impact on the work environment; the costs of occupational diseases have a high relation with the type of activity that the companies carry out.
