Abstract

On November 24, 1914, the newspaper El Colombiano of Medellín published under the title of "Catechization" the first letter that Laura Montoya (1874-1949) addressed to the governor of the Department of Antioquia, on October 22 of the same year, in order to detail her missionary work in Dabeiba, at the same time that persuaded him to grant him four petitions that would help him to continue with his work. Now, understanding that the letter is a very old document with a clear persuasive intention, the objectives of this paper will be to specify how persuasion is a communication technique that allows to build a discourse, whose purpose is to influence the recipients to Change your perception of the world through language. Show that the author constructed a discursive text that she tried to convince, from persuasion, so that each one of her requests would be fulfilled, focusing on different strategies such as the request for indulgence, credibility and emotions.
