The access through the Internet to the public information of the town halls has improved the communication from municipalities and town halls. This has been shown in successive research studies of institutional websites, but the question arises, has communication in municipal social media networks advanced in the same way? The aim of this work is to study the relationship between the population of a municipality and the activity of citizenship in social networks. Therefore, the study sample is made up of profiles on social media networks, Facebook and Twitter, which are the networks that are generally used by municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants in Extremadura (Spain). The sample will be analyzed with the methodology developed by the members of the research groups "Conectar" and "AR-CO" of the regional government, Junta de Extremadura. This methodology establishes the study variables with which the indicators that evaluate the activity in social networks are calculated, in order to be able to compare the results of this study and to obtain valid conclusions.
