DOCTOR LAURO MARÍA JIMÉNEZ AND HIS EDITORIAL WORK

Objective. The purpose of this study is to analyze the work of Dr. Lauro María Jiménez (1826-1875) in his role as editor. As head of the Phyliatric Society and of Beneficence of the Students of the School of Medicine, Jiménez created an organ of diffusion, titled El Porvenir, published in the city of Mexico in six volumes published between 1869 and 1875. Content. In order to better understand the editorial work of Dr. Lauro María Jiménez, this article contains several sections that together allow us to know who was our subject of study and the areas in which it was developed, as were, among others, the National School of Medicine, the Academy of Medicine of Mexico, the most important collegiate body of the country and that subsists today, and, finally, the Philoiatric Society. Results Lauro María Jiménez was a doctor belonging to the legal field, with a vocation to organize groups and communicate knowledge, as demonstrated by the two corporations he led, the Academy of Medicine and the Phylaiatric Society. Under the latter, he published the newspaper El Porvenir, fulfilling an important function, opening a space to concentrate the appropriation of knowledge, innovations that came from Europe, and on the other hand, talk about national medicine. The work of editor was highly esteemed, since he was a cultured professional, who had to infuse attractiveness and novelty to his newspaper. The present study points out the interests that moved Jiménez to the editorial task as well as his contributions to the field of medicine.
