ANÍBAL PONCE, PUBLISHER AND DIRECTOR OR DIALÉCTICA REVIEW

Abstract

In 1936, Aníbal Ponce published the magazine Dialéctica, in the context of the economic crisis of capitalism, of acute social and political conflicts and an intense process of cultural change in the world and Argentina. The search for the anti-fascist unit through the Popular Fronts and the Spanish Civil war provoked intense debates and political definitions at national and international level and impacted on cultural institutions and among intellectuals. The censorship and the political persecution in Argentina, personally affected Aníbal Ponce when in that same year of the publication of Dialéctica was excluded from the teaching by the government, by his taking of position in favor of the communism although for the formal exoneration its absence of enabling title one alleged. Ponce was proposing with Dialéctica to facilitate the access to not translated and unpublished texts, bringing together a largeness of horizon and topics with an explicit definition of the philosophical conception of the dialectical and historical materialism to analyze the reality. It was a didactic task, with an important translation effort in the broad sense of the word, a task in which he displayed with great erudition his ability to delve into all the topics that circulated in the cultural field for those years. At the same time, it was fundamentally a way of settling its own position in the cultural debate.
