This paper examines the effects of credit risk control policies on bank equity during the period 2020–2022. These policies were implemented in the context of the global pandemic that began in 2020. It is important to note that the manifestation of credit risk due to lack of repayment capacity, driven by the unexpected contraction of economic activities, was unprecedented. As a result, credit policies, debtor classification criteria, and provisioning requirements were unprepared for a scenario of this nature. The study finds that these policies had the intended effect: although there was a decline in financial income and lower profits, the impacts of the pandemic were managed in such a way that there was no significant effect on bank equity.
