The purpose of this essay is to address the relationship between environmental
(in)justice and human rights based on the concept of environmental refugees.
Such issues are related to the positioning of the State in the face of environmental
conflicts involving populations denominated as "environmental refugees" in
Brazil. We understand that forced human displacement for environmental
reasons is nothing new in terms of research, since much has been discussed
about the lack of legal, social and political support for people who are internally
or internationally displaced from their homes due to environmental impacts. To
this end, the text is organized in three parts: in the introduction, we will bring a
brief overview of the issue of refugees in the context of the capitalist development
model. In the second, we will problematize the refugees and their relationship
with environmental injustice; in the third, we will relate the impacts of human rights
violations on Environmental Refugees.
