Abstract

Van Rensselaer Potter's global Bioethics understands that political action must be
based on the relationship between ethical principles and scientific knowledge. This
perspective conceives citizenship as the ability to act responsibly and to protect
different forms of life. In the digital society, political action has been reduced to
interaction and engagement in social media. Therefore, we want to inquire about
new ways of conceiving citizenship from the bioethical point of view and provoking
reflection in critical-social action beyond online interactions. The interdisciplinary
dialogue between the members of the online and offline community will be able to
reactivate the sense of democratic participation and its communicative interaction in
the public sphere. Furthermore, the engagement of citizens in the defense of the
democratic rule of law, the care for human life, and the preservation of the
environment are essential in the digital society.
