WILD FAUNA: A SCHEDULE ON THE SMART CITIES AGENDA?

Abstract

The presence of wildlife in urban centres generates ethical conflicts considering the
potential to generate vulnerabilities for animals, cities, and institutions. This research
part of the question is that which is composed of the agenda schedules of smart
cities. Through an integrative review, scientific and popular contents were mapped in
five dimensions: taxonomic groups, locations of occurrence, interactions with
impacts on humans, urban pests, and solutions. A gap was identified between
national and international content as well as between scientific and popular,
demonstrating that disparity of interests could potentially compromise the formation
of a critical mass in the area. The results analyzed from the perspective of the two
objectives of sustainable development 11 and 15, the indicators of smart cities, the
principles of environmental and urban bioethics point to the inception that the
interaction between the population and wildlife in cities has been academically
discussed and socially informed. This research points to the existence of unattended
gaps in the expectation of a sustainable city that guarantees quality of life for all its
inhabitants.
