LOGISTIC REGRESSION ANALYSIS TO PREDICT FOOD INSECURITY IN THE MILPA PRODUCTION SYSTEM OF VALLE DEL MEZQUITAL, HIDALGO
Abstract
This research determines food insecurity in the milpa production system using a logistic regression
statistical model at the municipal level in localities of the Mexquital Valley. It was found that the
variables associated with the age of the producer, the number of hectares planted with rainfed crops,
the migration of a member of the family and the consumption of pulque intensify food insecurity. If the
age of the producer increases by one year, the food insecurity of the farms increases 1.2 times. The
results of the regression model indicate that if producers maintain the strategy of intercropping maize
production with other crops and make the selection of seed for planting, food insecurity could
decrease by approximately 98%
