WORSHIPS AND ANTHROPOLOGY IN DIGITAL WORLD: REFLECTIONS ON CATHOLIC SANCTUARIES AND MILAGRO´S CELEBRATION IN SALTA (ARGENTINA)
Abstract
Standing on a developing research about the Milagro's cult in the city of Salta, this work analizes from
an anthropological view on how the catholic sanctuaries phenomenon is traversed by digital media.
Due to the protagonism which the mentioned media has acquired during the social isolation
measures, implemented by Argentinian government in response to COVID-19 pandemic, we are
going to make an introducing approach to the theme in relation to different situations noticed about
the Milagro’s sanctuary in Salta and its traditional pilgrimage. Following this aim, we are going to state
questions, considerations and hypothesis which contribute to analyze changes, and continuities,
particularly during the last year, in the practice of devotion when they are mediated by digital
technologies. In additon, we will attend to how this impacts on the anthropological investigation, both
at gathering information and at the interpretative analysis
