THE POLICIES AS REPRESENTATIONS: DISABILITY AND HIGHER EDUCATION
Abstract
This Document is the result of a series of reflections made about students’ inclusion which presents disability in
higher education. The seminar becomes part of which has been found in a doctoral research done at the
Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico. This study had as objective to analyze the policies and social representations
of university agents. The purpose of this document is to report about the analysis done in the same one. The
study is presented through concluding observations and reflections, which ones are the result of the review of
literature on the subject, but they are also conceived from meetings of disabled people and other university
agents. The conclusion is: institutions of higher education have to experience an important change in order to
include disabled students. First of all, this change will be possible, through its institutional policies, but also in its
social representations about the subject.
