Keywords:

Since maternal death is the main cause of death among women of reproductive age globally and is a problem beyond the figures and the basic causes of death, the purpose of this document was to reflect on one of the scenarios that has not been fully addressed. in maternal death as it is the focus of law, which at the same time has to do with the loss of citizenship and the inequality of women who suffer or are at risk of dying. In this documentary study, we reviewed and analyzed from a critical perspective, different traditional epidemiological information, legal references of human rights and related to sexual and reproductive health in Venezuela. Despite the problem of maternal death, there is a favorable legal context for women to address the problem of maternal death, however there are no logical plans for compliance so the fatal event continues to increase. In addition, women are invisible, discriminated against and excluded in their homes, communities and the State itself. In this sense, the exercise of citizenship as a human right is also affected by not recognizing the health of the mother as a fundamental right in conditions of equality, a situation that is not manifested in public decisions, so it is observed that there is no complementarity between what the legal framework says, social policies and the development of citizenship.
