Abstract

The sexual function are the actions or characteristics of the sexual activity that occur during a lifetime, it comprises different phases and depends on several factors. During the pregnancy, changes can happen to the exercise of sexual function. Several variables influence these changes. Objective: To evaluate the sexual function of pregnant women with low and high obstetrical risk, attending the Central Hospital in Maracay City between April and October of 2017. Methods: Clinical investigation type, descriptive, transversal and prospective, non-probabilistic intentional sampling. With 312 pregnant women of low obstetrical risk (LOR) and 324 of high obstetrical risk (HOR), the data was obtained using a survey specifically designed for the purpose of this investigation and it was applied at the obstetrical emergency room and the perinatology consulting room. Results: The 82% of LOR and 79% HOR engaged in sexual intercourse, this sexual activity was present in 67% of pregnant women who had pathologies that contraindicated the coitus; however, 19,3% of the pregnant women who had no contraindication, didn’t have sexual relations. Amongst the variables that influenced negatively the sexual function exercise are sad mood state, myths belief, single civil status and other variables related with the couple. Conclusion: There are no clear differences between the two studied groups in relation to the sexual function exercise; in the same way, the sexual activity was present during the whole period of pregnancy, neither of the two groups showed a typical behavior in comparison to previous research in the area.
