Abstract

Rafael de Buen Lozano is one of the most renowned Spanish scientists in the early XX century. He earned his Bachelor‟s as well as his postgraduate in Sciences and was a pillar of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. From this Institute he published 14 books, more than 300 articles in journals from 12 different countries in several languages. He taught at the University of Seville and in Madrid. He was a member of the Spanish Socialist Labour Party and afterwards of the Spanish Communist Party and was a keen supporter of the Second Spanish Republic. At the end of the Spanish Civil War he lived abroad for 25 years as a political asylee in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Guatemala and Mexico where he worked for higher education and research institutions from which he published a number of papers and textbooks
